Full year 2011 UK automotive manufacturing figures published this week confirmed industry’s position as a key driver of the manufacturing-led recovery, with robust export demand leading to a rise in car and engine production.

Also this week, government and industry sent out a clear signal that they are fully committed to creating a leading market for ultra-low carbon vehicles in the UK with the announcement of the H2Mobility initiative and news that a new Plug-In Van Grant is to be established alongside the retained Plug-In Car Grant.

Both announcements highlight the growing number of opportunities being presented to motorists and manufacturers by the shift to a low carbon economy. I’m confident that industry will reap the rewards as the UK utilises its strengths in a growing low and ultra-low carbon sector.
